This afternoon, at around 17.00, we start our excellent street food walking tour in old quarter of Hanoi along the perimeter of the local market where dozens of street hawkers sell a staggering variety of produce from live seafood to exotic fruits and spices. Your expert English-speaking local guide will give you an insight into the intricacies and traditions of Vietnamese food culture including details on ingredients and historical backgrounds of popular northern dishes. We eat as we go, trying seasonal fruits…

Walking through the maze of bustling streets that make up Hanoi’s Old Quarter, we tempt the famous dishes of Hanoi such as Bun Cha Hanoi , Banh Cuon at a local eatery. Continuing into the atmospheric heart of the Old Quarter, we wander past street stalls and quiet residential lanes where you can observe local life that has changed little since Hanoi was founded over 1000 years ago.

Our next stopis at a local draft beer restaurant. We sit down with the Hanoi locals and sample various meats, vegetable together with some glass of cold beer.

Your local guide will then take you to one of Hanoi’s best kept secrets to taste top ten street foods in Hanoi is Banh My Hanoi.

Set in an idyllic valley, hemmed in by hills, the Mai Chau area is a world away from Hanoi’s hustle. The small town of Mai Chau itself is unappealing, but just outside the patchwork of rice fields rolls out, speckled by tiny Thai villages where visitors doss down for the night in traditional stilt houses and wake up to a rural soundtrack defined by gurgling irrigation streams and birdsong.

After breakfast you will be picked up again by your tour guide and driver, and taken on a four-hour scenic drive to Mai Chau through a spectacular mountain range. This is an authentic hill tribe region and a fantastic base for treks, local markets and villages. Arrive after mid-day, we check in and free for lunch.

Later in the afternoon, we will explore the surrounding villages on foot, meeting local people and learning about their lives raising crops and livestock. Tonight we enjoy dinner cooked and served by the local family. You can join a local traditional dance show performed by the White Thai people (optional). Return to the lodge for the night.

Because of this natural condition, Thai-people here rely mainly on agriculture. They specialize in weaving brocade products and they’re happy to show visitors their skills. The village is operated as a community cooperative organized by the people themselves – one of many reasons why Asia Dream Tours is proud to bring visitors here.

Useful Information

What you are reading here is just a sample itinerary. Your interest decides how your trip will look like. All of our tour is private so you can always adjust any details until it matches your wish...

Seasonal information:

Designed for all year round, however, this tour still has its favorite traveling time. Traveling from May to September, gets you to places where you see more landscape than tourist crowds but June, July, and August being the rainiest months typically. Biggest rush-in of tourists comes from October till the end of April, with a national break of the Tet Festival in January or February, when streets will be deserted. While in Vietnam, public transportation before the Tet Festival can be chaotic and tight, which means you better plan at least 3 months ahead if you would like a taste of traditional Vietnamese Tet New Year. However, everything can be tailor-made, remember? If your plan doesn’t fall in the “best time to Vietnam”, our travel consultants can still make it possible by adjusting activities, destinations and etc. Specify your travel time and let us work the magic.

Vietnam visa:

Most nationalities are required to obtain tourist visa for Vietnam ahead of the travel time. Holders of British, German, French, Spanish and Italian passports are exempt from visas for a stay of a maximum of 15 days for all purposes. We suggest you get your Vietnam visa at least one month ahead of your travel, which can be done either by application at your nearest embassy or online. Or we can offer you a Visa Aprroval letter for free (please contact our travel consultant for more information).

Tour arrangements

Sightseeing, activities and accommodations that are mentioned in this tour you are looking at are just for your inspiration. If you would like walking to find street food in Hanoi, instead of cyclo, change it; if you would like a junior suite in Ho Chi Minh City, change it; if you want to spend more time in Hoi An, change it; it is always up to you to make the trip just the right way you want. If you are looking for experiences that are not done by others we encourage you to talk with our travel advisor and set your own pace.

Responsible travel

Travel avails you with special experiences. Somehow its impact on the local community can be more beyond imagination and what Asia Dream Tours wishes to do is lead the impact onto a good path, a path that helps the local people (not only your tour guides) broaden their outlook and the local communities develop. During your trip, you will eat at a training restaurant where underprivileged youngsters get trained as a chef, ride on local cyclo to reduce your carbon footprints and most commonly learn about the country’s cultures with respect. Taking baby steps one at a time, we highly appreciate you would like to be part of it. With that being said, detours to so-called factories or specialty workshops are strictly prohibited. We make sure your tour guides earn enough to support their families without squeezing commissions out of you.
